Travel Tips

  • 1. backpacker - $100-$200

    2. comfortable $250-$500

    3. luxury $500+

(don’t miss our $1000 vs $100 video that discusses this in detail!)

  • Transportation varies between islands. Most tourists enjoy taking tour buses around, or renting their own cars for freedom of movement (we prefer hiring our own car). There are ride-sharing apps such as Uber and Lyft as well. In terms of travel between islands, flights are really affordable and the most popular way of inter-island travel but some of the islands are connected by ferries too.

  • The best time to visit Hawaii is between the months of March - May during the Spring. This is the time of the year when the weather is hot, there’s very little rain, less crowds and better pricing on the islands. January-March are great months for whale watching!

  • Hawaii is a relatively safe place to visit, just always be aware of your belongings and valuables in the hotel and in busy areas.

Beware of the ocean, never turn your back to the waves, always swim in designated areas and swim near lifeguards. Avoid swimming at night or at dawn when sharks are more active and aggressive.

When hiking, make sure to wear proper walking shoes, mosquito repellent, sunscreen and stay on the designated paths. Also, avoid hiking when it's raining to avoid flash flooding.

    Protect against mosquito bites.

Protect against sunburn, always wear sunscreen.

  • We booked all our accommodation on Airbnb, even the rooftop camper Jeep and campsite that we camped on in Maui.

NB: There are many zoning rules in Hana against airbnb properties.

  • Hawaii is the only US state with two official languages: The Hawaiian language (ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi), and English. The Hawaiian language is one of the oldest living languages in the world and it is a Polynesian language of the Austronesian language family that takes its name from Hawaiʻi, the big island where it developed.
