Being far enough from the tourist scene, Bacalar is mostly visited by Mexican vacationers and long-term travelers who have heard of Bacalar through the grapevine. Bacalar is a town 5 hours south of Cancun right on the Mexican border. It is home to a freshwater, 35 mile long lake. Often called the “Lagoon of 7 Colors” due to all of its shades of blue, this lake is one of Mexico’s best kept secrets.
We absolutely loved our 6 weeks in Playa del Carmen. PDC is centrally located to so many great activities in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico that it made for a great jumping off point for loads of adventures. We feel like we TOTALLY lucked out and found an Airbnb with a Jeep included which saved us money on a Mexican rental car (which is VERY expensive due to required insurance — more on this in the video).
Flying with a dog for the first time was both intimidating for us and Pepper. With so much conflicting information on the internet, through word of mouth and even from the airlines themselves we were't exactly sure what to expect.
